Week of April 29

04/29/19

The next two weeks we have state testing, so there are no lessons in Language Arts.  We are working on state research and other project-based-learning items.  This week we are testing on Tuesday and Thursday.  Next week we are testing Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.  Please make sure your child gets good nutrition, gets plenty of rest, and screen time is kept to a minimum.  

 

In math we are learning geometry, in science we are learning about weather, and in social studies we are learning about the Revolutionary War. 


Week of April 22

04/22/19

This week we are reading "Darnell Rock Reporting" by Walter Dean Myers.  The comprehension skills are author's purpose and summarize.  The vocabulary words are issue deteriorating dependent exception granted effective urge violations ordinanze minimum.  We are learning about more types of pronouns.

 

There will be a math test on Tuesday on measurement and geometry. 

 

In science we are learning about Earth Day and ecology. 

 

In social studies we are learning about the Revolutionary War. 


Week of April 1

04/01/19

The Hoop it Up assembly is on Tuesday.  Family Life is on Friday.

 

In language arts this week we are reading "LAFFF" by Lensey Namioka.  The comprehension skills are story structure and infer/ predict.  The vocabulary words are impressed collected produced destination origional concentrate suspense admitted compliment rumor.  In grammar we are reviewing adverbs and we are continuing with opinion writing. 

 

In math we are learning how to multiply fractions.

 

In science we are learning about the uneven heating of the Earth.

 

In social studies we are continuing with the Southern Colonies. 


Week of March 18

03/19/19

My apologies for not updating the page yesterday: I had a substitute. 

 

Tuesday and Wednesday this week are minimum days (12:55 dismissal) for Spring Conferences.  Conferences are only scheduled for certain students.

 

Thank you for your involvement with the See's Candy Fundraiser.

 

On Wednesday, an opt out letter will go home for the family life lesson, scheduled for April 5.

 

In language arts this week we are reading "Lunch Money," by Andrew Clements.  Our reading strategies are Author's Purpose and Monitor/Clarify.  The vocabulary words are feature record assuming mental launch thumbed developed incredibly rpisodes villains.  In grammar we are reviewing adjectives and in writing we are continuing with opinion writing.  

 

In math we are learning adding and subtracting unlike fractions. 

 

In science we are learning about the water cycle

 

In social studies we are learning about the Southern Colonies.

 

We are all done with PE testing!


Week of March 11

Hi parents!

Thank you for your patience with this page being updated.  His is the current information for this week.

 

  • PE Testing: this week we will be performing State PE Testing.  All students will be running the mile run, completing push-ups, curl ups, trunk lift, and perform the shoulder stretch.  In addition, they will discretely and privately have their weight and height measured.  Please make sure they dress accordingly, especially footwear 
  • Leprechaun traps will be assembled on Thursday.  Thank you for your donated supplies.
  • Conference letters went home last week.  Spring conferences are for a select group of students.  Thank you for returning the notice. March 19 and 20 are 12:55 dismissal days. 

In language arts this week we are reading "A Roar in the Darkness" from 'Storyworks'.  We will be synthesizing text, exploring text features, analyzing text evidence, making inferences, and answering close reading questions.  Please make sure the magazine travels to and from home daily.  Now that we have finished our colony brochures, we will return to opinion writing and review grammar skills. 

 

There will be a test in math on Tuesday on Fraction concepts.  After that we will start adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers.

 

In science we have been learning about the energy chain, food web, and ecosystems.  There will be a test on Tuesday.  Then we will start our Earth Science unit on water and weather. 

 

In social studies we are continuing with the colonies.  There will be a test Wednesday. 

 

 

 


Week of January 22

01/22/19

This week in language arts we are reading "They Called Her Molly Pitcher" by Anne Rockwell.  The comprehension skills are conclusions and generalizations as well as analyze/ evaluate.  The vocabulary words are revolution strategy foes legendary formal gushed plunged magnificent retreat shimmering.  For grammar we are learning about regular and irregular past tense verbs and in writing we are continuing with informational writing.  

 

In math we are dividing fractions.  There will be a test next week. 

 

In science we are learning about vascular plants.

 

In social studies we started Week 10: The Lost Colony of Roanoke. 

 

For PE this week we are playing basketball.  Jr. Olympics volleyball tryouts are Thursday and Friday.  Jr. Olympic track and field events tryouts will be the week of 2/4.


Week of January 14

01/14/19

In Language Arts this week we are reading "Can't You Make Them Behave, King George?" by Jean Fritz.  The vocabulary words are rebellious objected benefit repeal contrary midst temporary advantages previously prohibit.  The comprehension strategies are fact and opinion and questioning.  In grammar we are reviewing subject and object pronouns and in writing we are starting informative writing.  

In math we are multiplying decimals 

In social studies we are studying religion and trade in the colonies.

In science we are learning about taxonomy.

For PE we are playing basketball. 


Week of December 17

12/17/18

...it's two and a half days until Winter Break; like we are doing anything.  

 

Just kidding- In language arts we are reading a play about Thomas Edison in Storyworks and learning about how the kangaroo is becoming problematic in Australia.  We are also finish our opinion essays and researching celebrations of cultures around the world.  Students will present their findings on a Google slideshow.

 

 


Week of December 10

12/10/18

This week we are continuing with Storyworks and opinion writing.  In math we are learning multiplying decimals.  There is a test on Tuesday in science and we are learning about explorers in social studies. 


Week of December 3

12/03/18

This week we will reading "Beauty and Disaster" by Lauren Tarshis in Storyworks.  We will focus on reading skills informational standards.  In grammar we will review concepts taught.  In writing we will finish up our opinion essays.  

 

In math we are learning about multiplying decimals, social studies explorers, and science the digestive and excretory systems.  There will be a science test on 12/11.
